A family affair at Wallkill court?
You might see two generations of the Owen family on the bench at Wallkill town court pretty soon.
Joe G. Owen, who retired from the state Supreme Court last December after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 76, wants to replace Bonnie Kraham as Wallkill town justice — a position he held from 1974 to 1984 before moving up to county Surrogate Court. Kraham is stepping down at the end of the month and the town wants to fill her position until an election is held this fall.
Owen is one of three people who have applied for the job. If he’s selected, he would join his son, Joe A. Owen, who was elected town justice last fall.
The other applicants are Scotchtown lawyer Jaime Santana Jr., who Joe A. Owen defeated in last year’s election, and local insurance agent Nick Constantino.
