Section 9 girls’ golf first round results
There’s a surprise leader after the first round of the Section 9 girls’ golf championships.
Maybe, it’s not that big of a surprise, considering James I. O’Neill
sophomore Margaret Suchan was playing on her home course at West Point.
Suchan shot a 14-over-par 84 and has a four-shot lead over Valley
Central freshman Tori DeGroodt. Three-time section champ Ashley Zambito
of Newburgh Free Academy is tied for third (89).
The second round is at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday (May 27) at Orange County
Golf Club in Middletown. The top nine golfers there advance to the
state tournament on June 7-8 at Foxfire Golf Club in Baldwinsville.
