Nationals results: Ruggirello an all-American

Valley Central junior 130-pounder Cody Ruggirello is a Junior Nationals all-American.

Ruggirello defeated three-time state champion Luke Goetti of Minus Union (Ariz.) High 3-0 in a wrestleback to guarantee a place in the top eight in Virginia Beach, Va. Thursday.

Ruggirello wrestles Friday for placing. He can place as high as third.

Ruggirello is 4-1 in the tournament. He lost 2-1 in the quarterfinals to three-time New Mexico state champion Louis Trujillo. Trujillo, the top seed, scored two backpoints with 29 seconds left in the match. Ruggirello escaped with 10 seconds left.
