Good news for Army football players?
West Point superintendent Franklin L. Hagenbeck released this news yesterday.
Cadet Field Training in the summer will be shorten after plebe year,
starting with the class of 2011. Another summer
training session will be added to the final cadet summer (before
his/her senior year).
If I’m reading this right, it means cadets will be cut a break during
the summers before [...]

Army’s 2008 schedule
It’s official, the Army’s 2008 schedule has been released.
You won’t see the Boston Colleges, Georgia Techs, Wake Forests or even
the Tulsas. But it’s consistent with what athletic director Kevin
Anderson has talked about and it gives Army a realistic chance to have
its first winning season since 1996. Seven of the teams on the schedule
had a [...]

Bishop
Lynch (Dallas, Texas) safety Michael Tamez gave Brock his verbal
committment recently, according to Bishop Lynch assistant coach Rene
Ramirez.
“Michael was a team captain and a great competitor,”
Bishop Lynch coach Bill Persinger said. “Michael is a fine young man
and will do us proud at the Point. He [...]

2008 Buffalo-Louisiana Tech games confirmed
The University at Buffalo athletics Web site confirmed Tuesday Army will travel to Buffalo on Oct. 18, 2008 in the first of two meetings between the teams.
This means Army and Buffalo should play again sometime in the near future. Maybe at West Point.
Last week, Louisiana Tech athletic director Jim Oakes announced Tech signed a contract [...]

Campbell out of Shrine game
Talked to Army senior safety Caleb Campbell today. He will not play in the
East-West Shrine game Saturday (tomorrow). Campbell tweaked his right
hamstring in practice Wednesday. He decided playing and risking further
injury wasn’t worth it with the NFL Scouting Combine approaching next
month.
Campbell talked to plenty of scouts in Houston, site of the game.
“I’m excited because I’m [...]

Scheduling stuff
The Tulsa Word confirmed Friday Army canceled its away game at Tulsa in
2008 and bought out the home-and-home contract. The newspaper said
Tulsa officials didn’t release the amount Army paid. Tulsa played at
West Point in 2007.
So Army paid to get out of a home game against Georgia Tech and a road
game at Tulsa in 2008. Where [...]

No decision on Army’s offense
Army coach Stan Brock said Thursday he and his staff haven’t made a decision as to what offense his team will run in 2008.
And Brock said they probably won’t sit down and talk about it as a group until after the recruiting season, which lasts until mid-February.
“It’s just too busy right now,” Brock said. “The [...]

Viti tough
To anyone that’s watched Army fullback Mike Viti, it’s no surprise the
senior made ESPN college football analyst Mark May’s “All-Mayday”
team, which recognizes the toughest players in the country.
Viti
probably shouldn’t have been on the field for the Army-Navy in
December. He had suffered a high ankle sprain two weeks before against
Tulsa and was on crutches and in [...]

Bowl watching
As I watched Tulsa rip apart Bowling Green Sunday night and Rutgers
score at will against Ball State Saturday, I came away with a few
observations.
1. The Mid-American Conference, which Bowling Green and Ball State play
in, is pretty bad. When Army played a MAC team this season, TV
announcers brought up how it would be a good move [...]
