QB not coming to West Point

Take Army Prep’s Max Fritz out of the running as a candidate to be West Point’s future quarterback.

Fritz , a highly-touted signal caller from Salpointe High School in Tucson, Ariz., originally was headed to West Point in the fall. But Fritz has decided to transfer to the University of San Diego, according to Geoff Grammer of the Tucson (Ariz.) Citizen.

Fritz’s father said his son was good academic standing at the prep school, whose football team went 2-7-1 in 2007.

Maybe Army’s move to a wishbone or option-oriented offense made the decision easy from Fritz. At Salpointe High, Fritz passed and passed. He threw for 2,359 yards and 22 touchdowns his senior year in 2006.
