Pete Dawkins Day at West Point

Heisman trophy winner Pete Dawkins’ No. 24 at Army will be retired on Pete Dawkins Day on Oct. 25 when Louisiana Tech travels to West Point.

The first 10,000 fans (ages 15 and older) entering Michie Stadium will receive a Pete Dawkins bobblehead.

Army is promoting its 2008 game promotions in May. That tells you something about the home schedule. Nevertheless, Army has a fan giveaway for all six home games.

Army will have “Back-To-School Night” for its opener on Aug. 29 against Temple.  The first 5,000 fans (ages 14 and under) will receive an Army football-themed lunch box. Army’s undefeated 1958 football team will be honored at halftime for the 50th aniversary of West Point’s last unbeaten team.

New York Giants Appreciation Day is Sept. 6 when Division I-AA New Hampshire visits. The first 10,000 fans (ages 15 and older) will receive a New York Giants Appreciation Day mini-helmet. Also, former Army player Greg Gadson, will be presented with a Super Bowl ring from the Giants organization at halftime. Pregame photograph and autograph sessions with Gadson and members of the Giants organization are planned.

Sept. 20’s game against Akron will be Hall of Fame weekend. The first 10,000 fans entering Michie Stadium will receive an 8X10-inch print containing photos of the Army Sports Hall of Fame class of 2008. Inductees will be honored at halftime.

Homecoming is Oct. 11 versus Central Michigan. The first 10,000 fans (ages 15 and older) will receive a desktop replica of Michie Stadium.

And lastly, Army will honor the 20th anniversary of its Sun Bowl-champion team on Nov. 1 when service academy rival Air Force visits. The first 10,000 fans will receive a commemorative photo of the team. Members of the team will be available for pictures and autographs.
