The D against Temple

His defense played well enough for Army to win, coach Stan Brock said. Take away a special-teams touchdown and two scores set up by turnovers and Army’s D was really responsible for 14 of Temple’s 35 points. Senior linebacker Frank Scappaticci disagreed with Brock. When asked if Army’s D played well enough to win, Scappaticci was brief and to [...]

Brown’s link to Army

It was a little ironic Morkeith Brown was the player, who scooped up a fumble by Army quarterback Carson Williams and returned it 17 yards for a score. Brown is a 23-year-old, 6-foot-6 freshman defensive end, who was playing in his first college game. He enlisted in the Army after graduating Central Dauphin East (Pa.) High [...]

A quarterback change already?

Army coach Stan Brock used all three of his second-half timeouts within the last 26 seconds of the game when the outcome was long decided. Brock had good reason. He wanted to give sophomore quarterback Chip Bowden as many touches as possible in his first college game. “In the end, I used my timeouts because I wanted [...]

More Brock from Tuesday

Caught up with Army coach Stan Brock for a few minutes after Tuesday’s press conference. We talked about a few position battles and Carlo Sandiego’s role in the offense. Defenses will have to guess where Sandiego will be lining up this year. Sandiego could be in the slot, split out wide or under center. On how important [...]

Temple coach Al Golden on Friday’s game

Here are highlights from a teleconference with Temple coach Al Golden as he prepares for the Owls’ season-opener at Michie Stadium Friday. On the optimism for Temple football in 2008 “There was only one way for the optimism to go, so it’s all relative. We have a good group coming back. We have a long way to go [...]

Coach Brock’s Tuesday press conference

Here are the highlights from Army coach Stan Brock’s Tuesday press conference. The interesting nugget of the presser was Brock said he hasn’t decided anything with the special teams yet. I should have asked him specifically if he just meant the kicking game. I assumed senior Andrew Rinehart had the punting duties locked up. Sports [...]
