Thought Johnny Burnett’s return to West Point was a lock. Army announced Rich Ellerson of Cal Poly will be its next head football coach Friday morning. The Times Herald-Record reported Monday Ellerson was in line to become Army’s 36th coach. Rick Ellerson is visiting West Point today, according to a source. Ellerson, Cal Poly’s head coach, who will likely be named Army’s next coach soon, also met with Superintendent Lt. Gen. Franklin Hagenbeck in Florida Monday, a source confirmed. A formal press conference has yet to be announced.
