Injury update: Anderson and Bowden out of season

The Times Herald-Record has learned junior middle linebacker Stephen Anderson will miss the rest of the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee.

Anderson, Army’s leading tackler, was blocked by Air Force guard Peter Lusk and his knee buckled on a eight-yard TD run by Asher Clark with the 2:47 left in the game. The touchdown gave Air Force a 35-7 lead.

Anderson had 16 tackles in the game and has a team-high 83 tackles, nine for a loss.

Army could move outside linebackers Andrew Rodriguez or Steve Erzinger to middle linebacker and play senior Chad Thayer on the outside.

Army junior quarterback Chip Bowden is also lost for the season with torn ACL in his right knee. Bowden was injured covering a punt in the first quarter at Air Force. He saw action in six games as freshman Trent Steelman’s backup. Bowden completed nine of 26 passes for 106 yards with one TD and one interception. He also rushed 19 times for 59 yards. Bowden was also the upback on punts.

Army coach Rich Ellerson was not available for comment Monday.
