Army junior co-captain Stephen Anderson will write a diary for the Times Herald-Record during Army-Navy week. A season-ending knee injury will keep Anderson, Army’s leading tackler, out of the service-academy rivalry. But Anderson’s leadership is still a big part of the team’s heart beat. He’ll take us inside the locker room, practice and the West Point campus leading up to the big game on Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field.
The team started off the day going through position walks. I always enjoy waking up and talking football. I enjoy it even more when I can actually practice football with the team. Bright and early, the defense started going over Navy’s offense. The day started off extremely chilly and was a good wake up call. The offense did position walk throughs where they got a feel for the the weather and surroundings.
Right after lunch we headed off to the Lincoln Financial field to do our “Sideline Drill”. We went over the coin toss, each special team unit and talked about anything we need to focus on. The exciting part today was just getting a feel for the stadium. Looking around at an empty stadium only to understand that it will be standing room only on Saturday. The best part about our team is when pressue is put on us we thrive. We love being the only college football game to watch on Saturday. We love playing in front of 70,000 people. We love having millions of people watching the game all over the world. We want the soldiers over seas to see us play and see the emotion we bring. The passion for the game, the passion for battling towards a victory, the passion playing with one another. We know Navy is not going to back down, but they know this is not just another Army Football team. This is not the team from the past, and we get to show the world how far this program has come in one year. Navy knows this and they will be intimidated by it.
In the end we came back to the hotel, watched some more film, ate some dinner, and got off our feet. We rested up the rest of the night with only positive thoughts on our minds. I made so many plays in my head tonight and I am not even playing. I cannot imagine how many plays my teammates have made. We want this game and when we want something, it is hard to tell us “No”.
The day has finally come. 12 December 2009, 2:30pm (ET) at Lincoln Financial Field. This is the place to be if you’re a fan of college football. This will be a battle, and let us remember, the Army is the Boots on the Ground!
Go Army Beat Navy!
