Recruiting: Luetjen chooses Army over Air Force

Score one for Army over Air Force. Hennessey (Okla.) quarterback Matt Luetjen verbally committed to Army Tuesday. “I took a visit out there (West Point) last weekend and I was just blown away,” Luetjen said. “I had decided before then that there wasn’t any other place I’d rather be. It was the icing on the [...]

Mr. Kentucky not interested in Army anymore

Ft. Campbel quarterback Antonio Andrews canceled an official visit to West Point, leaving Army out of the running for Kentucky’s Mr. Football. Andrews told the Times Herald-Record Wednesday afternoon he called a member of Army’s coaching staff and informing him of his decision last week “I’ve changed some mind (on the visit),” Andrews said. Andrews has received scholarship [...]

Recruiting: Arizona LB on board, McKearn next

Tempe (Ariz.) McClintock linebacker Hayden Tippett joined to class of 2010, verbally committing to Army, according to azcentral.com. McClintock, who was his region’s defensive player of the year, made 95 tackles. Army continues to make a push locally. James I. East-West Shrine roommates

Guess who is Army wide receiver Ali Villanueva’s roommate at the East-West Shrine Game week in Orlando, Fla. None other than Navy linebacker Ross Pospisil. “He’s a good guy,” Villanueva said. “It’s not like we are fighting with each other all of the time.” Look for my story on Villanueva at the East-West Shrine later this week.

Tennessee hiring

Headscratcher on Tennessee’s hiring of Derek Dooley as head coach. I know Duke’s David Cutcliffe and Will Muschamp, the defensive coordinator at Texas, pulled them names out of the running. Let’s remember Dooley, the son of legendary Georgia coach Vince Dooley and Louisiana Tech’s head coach, was outsmarted by Stan Brock and Army in a 14-7 loss [...]

Roster update

Junior cornerback Richard King has officially returned to the team. King missed the 2009 season due to a concussion. He played in 11 games in 2008, mostly as a nickelback and special teams player. King had an interception, a sack and 18 tackles. Don’t be surprised if King helps out in the punt-return game. Looks like junior linebacker [...]

Warinner Irish-bound

Former Army offensive coordinator Ed Warinner will be Notre Dame’s offensive line coach next season, according to a source. Warinner was the offensive coordinator at Kansas under Mark Mangino for the last three seasons. New Kansas head coach Turner Gill did not retain Warinner. I’m told Warinner interviewed for the Akron head coaching opening. Akron hired Notre [...]
