Practice blog: March 24

Army practiced for the first time since March 8.

And coach Rich Ellerson said part of practice was a rehearsal for the Black & Gold game Saturday at Michie Stadium, which will be an offense vs. defense scrimmage.

“Coming back from spring break, I wanted this to be a great developmental time for us,” Ellerson said. “So we jumped right back to the weight room and the off-season program the last two days. Their legs aren’t great today. I didn’t want to wear them down. It was a chance to reinforce some fundamentals and get the rust off and a dress rehearsal for the sequence of events that’s going to be on Saturday.”

Army is down to three quarterbacks – freshman starter Trent Steelman and sophomores Jimmy Reitter and Taylor Hall. Sophomore Max Jenkins isn’t with the team due to family reasons.

Wide receiver Davyd Brooks snagged a pass near the sidelines and cornerback Antuan Aaron questioned whether he kept one foot inbounds.

Wide receiver Malcolm Brown made a nice over-the-shoulder catch on a deep pass down the right sideline.

Freshman cornerback Josh Jackson picked off Reitter.

Army’s first-team offensive line: Junior left tackle Anees Merzi, freshman left guard Frank Allen, junior center Zach Peterson, junior right guard Mike Weich, sophomore right tackle Mike McDermott.

Senior tackle Jason Johnson was dressed for practice but was limited.

Didn’t see junior slotback Jameson Carter at practice.
