Army-Notre Dame at Yankee Stadium in 2013 is off, said Army athletic director Kevin Anderson.
“We would have liked to play Notre Dame in 2013, but Notre Dame has found that it’s not going to work for them,” Anderson said.
Anderson said Stanford, which is scheduled to play a 2013 game at West Point, could be an option to replace Notre Dame.
“I would love to see if they (Stanford) would be interested in coming and playing us in Yankee Stadium,” Anderson said. “That would be a tremendous game for New York, Yankee Stadium and the Pac-10.”
He said there’s an outside chance Syracuse could play in the game.
“That’s another opportunity in 2013, quite possibly playing Syracuse, although I think they have some scheduling issues,” Anderson said. “That might not work for them. That would be another great opponent to bring to Yankee Stadium in 2013. I’ve talked to (Syracuse athletic director) Daryl Gross and we would like to schedule some games.”
Anderson said he’s been in discussions with Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez on a Yankee Stadium game down the road.
“Coach Alvarez and I have a good relationship and we’d like to get it done although it’s difficult on conference games and getting the game in,” Anderson said. “That could be a possibility and that would a great game to bring to Yankee Stadium.”
The interest is high from many teams to play at Yankee Stadium. Anderson said he hasn’t talked to Coloardo, which accepted a bid to the Pac-10 Conference Thusday, directly but he understands it is only the school interested in playing.
