North Texas QB out

North Texas will be without starting quarterback Nathan Tune against Army Saturday at Michie Stadium.

North Texas coach Todd Dodge said Tune, a senior, dislocated his hip in last Saturday’s 32-31 loss to Rice. Tune had surgery Saturday to put the hip back in place.

Tune threw for 525 yards and four touchdowns in the first two games.

Sophomore Derek Thompson will likely get the start for North Texas. Thompson, who is 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, has completed five of his seven passes for 40 yards this season. He played in North Texas’ season finale against Arkansas State last year and completed all three passes for 60 yards and a touchdown. Thompson threw 79 touchdowns passes at Glen Rose (Texas) High.

Riley Dodge, the coach’s son, who was switched from quarterback to wide receiver, is now North Texas’ backup quarterback and may run a f ew plays out of the wildcat formation. Dodge threw for 225 yards and three interceptions and rushed for 90 yards in a 17-13 loss to Army last November.
