Blanda’s West Point connection

The football universe is mourning the passing of Raiders great George Blanda at the age of 83 Monday.

Blanda’s younger brother, Tom, played quarterback and kicked for Army in 1959 and 1960. Blanda completed 92 of his 164 passes (56 percent, the eighth-highest in a season in academy history) for 1,119 yards and eight touchdowns in 1960. He booted a 29-yard field goal in Army’s 9-3 win over Syracuse in 1960.
