Mealy should start against Rutgers

Army senior slotback Pat Mealy returned to practice Tuesday and should be back in the starting lineup against Rutgers Saturday at the New Meadowlands Stadium.

Mealy, who has been battling a right knee injury, was available at Tulane last week. But coach Rich Ellerson held Mealy out of slotback duty with the hopes of him being close to full strength for Rutgers.

Mealy didn’t practice last week and Ellerson is a little wary of using players in games who don’t practice during the week.

Mealy, who has rushed for 184 yards and two touchdowns this season, didn’t play against Duke on Sept. 25 and had seven carries for 16 yards against Temple on Oct. 2.

Mealy said it was “bittersweet” watching from the sidelines against Tulane and said, “We want the game that’s all that matters.”
