Mooney headed to Green Bay this weekend

Former Army fullback Collin Mooney will visit the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

Mooney, who is an executive officer at Ft. Sill, Okla, told the Times Herald-Record he will meet with coaches from the Super Bowl champions.

“I was very surprised when I got a call from my agent saying they wanted to invite me up,” Mooney said. “We’ll see where it goes from there. I know with the lockout they are not signing anybody, at least they are interested. I know it’s more of an interview process more than anything else.”

Mooney, who set Army’s single-season rushing record (1,339 yards) in 2009, is close to completing two years of active duty. The Army allows athletes, who have a pro contract, to request release from their military commitment  after two years of service.

Mooney is considered a free agent. NFL teams cannot sign free agent until a collective bargaining agreement is reached with the players.
