Coach Ellerson’s pre-Navy presser

Army coach Rich Ellerson sounds like he’s ready for his team to play Navy today.

Ellerson has been fielding questions on Saturday’s service-academy game for the good part of two weeks.

Ellerson’s opening statement was very brief and the press conference may have been the shortest of the season.

Ellerson did say junior quarterback Trent Steelman would start. He said Steelman would be close to 100 percent by kickoff.

After the press conference, Ellerson told me that freshman Terry Baggett has looked great in practice and will be in the backfield mix. He said freshman defensive back Hayden Pierce’s status is similar to Steelman’s and that he should be close to 100 percent by Saturday.

If Army attempts any field goals,. senior Alex Carlton is the Black Knights guy, Ellerson said. Ellerson said Carlton has been kicking well.
