Spring game at Fort Benning

Army is taking its spring Black/Gold game on the road.

The Black Knights will play its scrimmage at Fort Benning, Ga. on March 9.

“It’s something we’re anxious to do,” Army coach Rich Ellerson said in a release. “It makes too much sense. As spring football games have become a little bit more of a media event, it’s a chance for us to showcase the program and articulate that connection with the U.S. Army Maj. Gen. (Bob) Brown (the Fort Benning commanding general) shares that vision as well.”

Army players will attend Fort Benning’s basic training graduation ceremony and take a tour of the National Infantry Museum.

The format of the game wasn’t released. Last year, the offense and defense competed against each other with a modified scoring system.

The 2011 Black/Gold game was played on March 9 in 35 -degree temperatures at Michie Stadium.

Hardcore, local fans will miss out on seeing the Black Knights on their home field. But, I wouldn’t be surprised in the game is streamed on the Knight Vision video board or aired on CBS Sports Network.
