Feb. 13 practice blog

Army defensive players starting rolling into the Foley Athletic Center around 6:30 a.m. for stretches.

While they began drills shortly after 7 a.m., the offense was in the weight room working out in the team’s first weekday morning practice of the spring.

The unit swaped places around 7:40 a.m.

The offense worked in four teams and running skeleton plays simulating defenses while moving at a game-like pace for conditioning.

Four quarterbacks practiced. The depth chart (as per walk/run throughs, and of course, subject to change) was senior Trent Steelman, freshman Angel Santiago, freshman Gino DeBartolo and sophomore Parker Hite.

First-time offense: fullback Larry Dixon, running backs Raymond Maples and Terry Baggett, wide receivers E.J. Tucker and Patrick Laird, left tackle Ben Jebb, left guard Frank Allen, center Ryan Powis, right guard Steve Shumaker and right tackle Derek Bisgard.

Second-team offense: fullback Hayden Tippett, running backs Jared Hassin and Stephen Fraser, wide receivers Anthony Stephens and Michael Hudson, left tackle Tom Houser, left guard John Szott, center Tood McDonald, right guard Will Wilson, right tackle Dan Whitaker.

Third-team offense: fullback Dan McGue, running backs Kelechi Odocha and Brian Austin, wide receivers Chevaughn Lawrence and Robert Wright, left tackle Richard Rainey, left guard Zach Reichert, C Ryan Gibeley, right guard David Evans, right tackle Rob Bickel.

Fourth-team offense: fullback Brady Earnhardt, running backs Lawrence Scott and Julian Crockett, wide receivers Ross McDonald and Zach Williams, left tackle Ryan Kalnins, left guard Mark Van Koop, centerWill O’Keefe, right guard Nick Bennett, right tackle Colin Joy.

Coach Rich Ellerson wasn’t certain of freshman running back Trenton Turrentine’s availability for spring practice. Turrentine started the first three games of the 2011 before injuring his knee and having surgery. Turrentine dressed but did not participate in practice.

Sophomore wide receiver Jared McFarlin stayed after practice, working with offensive coordinator Ian Shields.

Monday was a no-pads practice, the first of three under NCAA¬† rules. Player will also be in pads Wednesday. The first hitting comes at next Tuesday’s practiceon Feb.¬† 21.
