Good news on the injury front.
Sophomore starting center Ryan Powis worked with the first team in practice. Powis missed Army’s season-opening 42-7 loss at San Diego State Saturday with a hand injury.
Senior wide receiver Malcolm Brown (hamstring), who didn’t make the trip to San Diego, was also working with the first team. Brown was wearing a limited jersey but he was sprinting.
Junior defensive end and captain Jarrett Mackey (knee) participated in practice. Don’t think Mackey was at completely full speed but working with the first team is a good sign that he could return sooner than later. Mackey is recovering from an ACL injury.
Senior starting defensive end Zach Watts and sophomore strong safety Hayden Pierce (shoulder) were in non-contact jerseys.
Senior linebacker C.J. Shelley, one of Army’s top special teams players, was also practicing fully.
Freshman running back Marcus Poling took snaps Angel Santiago and A.J. Schurr, the second and third-team quarterbacks. Sophomore Lawrence Scott worked with the “varsity.”
Looks like there could be some shuffling on first-team defense.
Junior Thomas Holloway was playing strong safety for Pierce. Holloway, who made seven starts last season, saw limited action at rover against San Diego State.
Senior Waverly Washington was running at cornerback in place of junior Tyler Dickson. Washington made his only career start in last year’s season opener against Northern Illinois. He didn’t play at San Diego State.
