Oct. 23 practice blog

Sophomore fullback Larry Dixon, who missed last week’s game with a hamstring injury, and senior safety Ty Shrader, out the last two games with a hamstring injury, were doing some running on the side at practice.

Junior safety Justin Trimble was back practicing with the first-team defense after missing last week with a concussion.

Senior linebacker C.J. Shelley was the only player wearing a black Ranger helmet, which recognizes effort from the previous game.

Senior running back Jared Hassin wasn’t at practice.

Junior Hayden Tippett worked with the first team at fullback. Freshman Matt Giachinta lined up with the second team as a fullback.

Senior left guard Frank Allen didn’t practice. Senior Will Wilson will filling in at left guard with the first team. Junior Zach Reichert saw some snaps at right guard with the first team. Starting right guard Steve Shumaker was in a “limited” blue jersey. Running backs Raymond Maples, the team’s leading rusher, and Jon Crucitti, starting center Ryan Powis and starting defensive end Bobby Kough were also in blue and practiced.

Sophomore running back Trenton Turrentine made a nice catch on the sideline on a ball from Trent Steelman.

Freshman kicker Dan Grochowski looked good on his field goal attempts at the end of practice.

Josh Jackson, Anthony Stephens, Scott Williams and Chris Carnegie finished practice fielding punts.
