Powis no longer with team

Senior Ryan Powis, Army’s starting center the past three seasons, has left the team.

Powis (6-foot, 248 pounds), who started 29 games in his Army career, was moved to left tackle by first-year coach Jeff Monken in spring practice in April.

Army was looking for more size at center and switched junior Matt Hugenberg (6-3, 285) from guard. Monken’s triple-option offense works off the fullback and power runs up the middle.  Powis was effective using his quickness to get to the defense’s second level in former coach Rich Ellerson’s offense. He was listed as the second-team left tackle on Army’s post-spring depth chart.

Army opens preseason practice on August 4. The Black Knights kick off the Monken Era against Buffalo on Sept. 6 at Michie Stadium in West Point.
