Senior defensive end Joe Drummond and senior fullback Larry Dixon comment after Army’s 35-0 loss at No. 15 Stanford.
Joe Drummond
On Stanford’s offense
“They came out especially in the second half like a team on a mission. They made the plays that they had to and we didn’t make the big plays that we had to to win the game.”
On the defense’s effort in the first half
“We were feeling good for sure. We gave up a couple of big plays early. We were extremely well prepared. They didn’t throw anything at us that we were unprepared for. Unfortunately, we didn’t make the plays that we needed to to be successful. Stanford is one hell of a team. They did a great job capitalizing on their opportunities and made the plays they had to to win the ball game.
On playing a ranked team like Stanford
“We knew coming into the game that we were well prepared but we knew we had to take advantage of opportunities that came our way. We just simply do that today.”
Larry Dixon
On a tough day for the running game
“We didn’t do what we wanted to. We didn’t take care of the ball. I take full responsibility for that. We are at a critical time in the game. The defense gets a great stop. We are down 7-0 and we have a chance to score at the end of the half and I chuck up the ball. I take full responsibility. The game kind of went with that, a lot of it is on me. As an offense, we are going to work harder and regroup.
On what is was like playing Stanford’s defense
“They are just flat-out athletes. There’s just no other way to say it. When you look across the line, you are going to see a lot of great players, a lot of future NFL players and they are well-coached team. As offense, we have to rise to the occasion and it’s up to me to not let the team down.”
