Future schedules: Army talking to Ohio State, Rutgers game moving

Army and Ohio State could meet for the first time in their storied football histories in the near future.

Army athletic director Boo Corrigan confirmed to the Times Herald-Record on Thursday that the academy has had talks with Ohio State about playing a game.

Corrigan said Army wants to have one game against a marquee program a year. Army is playing Penn State on October 3 this year and Notre Dame on Nov. 12, 2016 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

That leaves the 2017 season and beyond for the possible Ohio State game. Army has a home-and-home series scheduled against Oklahoma in September 2018 and 2020.

Ohio State has open dates for games on Sept. 9, 2017 and August 31, 2019.

Army had Buffalo scheduled for a home game on Sept. 9, 2017.

Corrigan said future games against marquee teams will be played away from Michie Stadium.

Neutral-site games are a possibility.

In other scheduling news, Army fans will be happy. The Nov. 21 against Rutgers will be moved from Yankee Stadium to Michie Stadium. It’s just a matter of paperwork.
