Senior quarterback A.J. Schurr is lifting and working out with the team, Army coach Jeff Monken said in a recent interview.
Monken expects Schurr to be cleared to practice when Army opens its preseason camp on August 3. Schurr was sidelined during spring practice following shoulder surgery.
“He seems to be doing well,” Monken said. “Hopefully, his recovery will continue to progress and we’ll have him ready to go for preseason camp.”
Schurr has played quarterback in 20 career games. He has rushed for 371 rushing yards and seven touchdowns and thrown for four scores. He will compete in camp with sophomore Ahmad Bradshaw, junior Matt Kaufmann and freshmen Chris Carter, William James and Luke Langdon.
Monken said senior tackle Drew Hennessy, who also missed the spring recovering from surgery, will be ready for the preseason.
“Everybody seems to be fine at this point,” Monken said. “I’m feeling positive about that.”
