After Signing Day

Signing Day did not signify the end of Army’s 2016 recruiting class.

Recruits are on post this weekend. Some are commits. Others are still deciding.

“There’s still some kids that are visiting this weekend and I know there’s some kids that visiting the other academies this coming weekend that frankly, we are still in a battle with the other academy for these last few kids that are out there,” Army coach Jeff Monken said on Wednesday.

“Others are kids that are already committed to us and they’ve been committed for a long time and we want to get them on campus and get them around our guys and get them around each other.”

Franklin Regional (Pa.) linebacker Jake Lauer signed his pledge of commitment to Army Thursday. Lauer is headed to Army Prep.

Episcopal (La.) running back T.J. Wisham officially signed Friday.

Among the recruits on campus this weekend are Dawson (Texas) wide receiver Antoine Cannady, and Cabell Midland (W.Va.) running back Jacob Hendricks.

More on recruiting, Monken said that Army had more “eyes” on recruits during this cycle. Once an assistant coach found a prospect in his area, the recruit was passed on to additional coaches on the staff for further evaluation.

“I think having more evaluations has helped us,” Monken said. “We just try to be as thorough as we can. Unfortunately, there’s still guys out there for whatever reason we didn’t have a chance to see.”
