Coaching staff news: Viti promoted to assistant

Army will open spring practice on April 1 with a new fullbacks coach.

Mike Viti, captain of Army’s 2007 team, will coach the position that he played at West Point from 2004-07, the Times Herald-Record has learned.

Viti was Army’s director of high school and alumni relations last season. He is the first Army football graduate to be a full-time assistant in Jeff Monken’s tenure. Viti was a four-year letterman and two-year starter (2006-07).

Viti’s promotion requires some shifting among Army’s coaching staff.

Sean Saturnio will move from fullbacks coach to tight ends coach. Saturnio coached tight ends forĀ  Monken at Georgia Southern in 2012-13.

Have not confirmed but thinking assistant Bob Bodine will return to coaching the offensive line. Bodine assisted offensive coordinator Brent Davis with the line during the 2014 season.

It’s been a busy offseason for Army’s coaching staff. Jeff Monken added three new assistants – Chad Wilt (defensive line), Daryl Dixon (outside linebacker) and ShaDon Brown (cornerbacks) to replace the departing Ray McCartney, Jovan Dewitt and Orlando Mitjans.

Offensive line coach Todd Spencer stepped down because health/injury concerns creating an opening on offense.

Army has yet to announce any staff changes. The 2015 coaching staff is listed on its website.

In other coaching news: Ray McCartney is now the defensive line coach at Davidson.
