August 10 practice blog

Junior wide receiver Jeff Ejekam and sophomore cornerback Brandon Jackson have pushed each other in 1-on-1s since preseason practice began.

There’s been some playful jawing too. Ejekam beat Jackson for a catch near the sideline to open a period during Wednesday’s afternoon session and let the cornerback know about it.

“That’s one,” Ejekam said.

Ejekam, a junior, provides plenty of confidence and swagger to Army’s receiving corps.

“We’ve established ourselves as one of the most elite players on this team,” Ejekam said. “That’s not something that you see often in a triple-option offense. Just being able to be versatile in the blocking aspect and the passing games is phenomenal. We have a great coach (Keith Gaither), a great leader in Edgar Poe and we just follow in his footsteps.”

Poe, the team’s leading receiver in 2016, gave coaches a scare late in the scrimmage when he got tangled up with a cornerback on a deep pass and fell to the turf. Poe appeared to hurt his ankle and was helped off the field by two of his teammates. Will have to check with coach Jeff Monken on the severity of the injury at media day tomorrow (Thursday).

The following players did not participate in practice: QB Chris Carter; C Josh Boylan; DE Jordan Smith; NT Cordarrell Davis; SB Elijah St. Hilaire; WR Luke Peterman; G Ethan Palelei; LB Joe Ryan; OL Jack Sides.

Upgraded: Junior NT Andrew McLean and freshman WR Kjetil Cline returned to participating in practice.
