Postgame Rice: Max Regan, Kell Walker

Junior safety Max Regan’s first career interception was the first of six Army takeaways and sparked a 49-12 rout over Rice.

Regan’s 48-yard pick six was the defense’s first touchdown this season.

Kell Walker and Army’s offense capitalized on Rice turnovers, scoring on their next four possessions following Regan’s interception. Walker, who rushed for a career-high 127 yards, reached the end zone three times on those drives.

Here are Regan and Walker’s comments via phone interviews on Army’s first road win of the season:

Max Regan

On his interception return
“One of our linebackers got in there and had a great hit on the quarterback. He blooped it up. I was in the right place to catch it. I was able to make one guy miss and I saw a green field. It was a great feeling and awesome to get into the end zone.”
On six takeaways by defense
“We hadn’t had a turnover in three games and all of the defensive coaches were locked in on us getting some turnovers this week. All week, we were practicing ripping the ball out. It was really good to shift the momentum and get the offense back on the field.”
Kell Walker
On defense setting the tone
“We were just a big cohesive unit today. The defense did a tremendous job to get their offense on the field and we knew we had to match their intensity.  When the offense got on the field we knew we had to score and capitalize.  It was definitely a snowball effect. It started with the coaches, calling some good plays and getting us fired up and believing in us. It trickled down to the offensive line, who did a tremendous job of moving the pile and moving that defensive line.”
