Monken ties for 12th in AP Coach of Year voting

Army’s Jeff Monken earned one third-place vote and finished tied for 12th with TCU’s Gary Patterson for Associated Press Coach of the Year award.

Monken has led the Black Knights to a 9-3 record and its first Commander in Chief’s trophy since 1996 following a 14-13 win over Navy on Dec. 9. He was one of eight finalists for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year.

Former Central Florida coach Scott Frost, who led the Knights to a 12-0 record and later took the Nebraska job, won both the Associated Press and Eddie Robinson awards.

Monken, who is in his fourth season, has Army one victory away from equaling the academy’s record of 10 wins set by the 1996 team. The Black Knights closed their season against San Diego State in the Armed Forces Bowl Saturday at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas.
