Aukerman gets tryout with Saints

Army senior linebacker Alex Aukerman has accepted an invitation to Saints rookie mini-camp this weekend in New Orleans.

The Saints are bringing Aukerman, who has led Army in sacks and tackles for loss the past two seasons, in as a fullback.

Aukerman, who is 6-foot-1, 260-pounds, will participate in the mini-camp, which runs from Friday through Sunday with defensive end Marcus Davenport and the Saints 2018 draft picks along with unsigned free agents including Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett.

Originally recruited as a 205-pound safety out of Center Grove (Ind.) High, Aukerman made himself into one of Army’s strongest pound-for-pound players and allowed defensive coordinator Jay Bateman to use him as an outside linebacker, defensive end and interior lineman as a junior and senior.
