Recruiting: South Carolina QB Alex Meredith, California FB Cole Truex latest commits

Three-year starting A.L. Hanna (S.C.) quarterback Alex Meredith committed to Army this week.

Meredith has thrown for close to 6,000 yards and 62 touchdowns in three seasons. He’s rushed for 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns. Meredith, who is 6-foot and 185 pounds, had offers from Navy and in-state Coastal Carolina.

“I chose the school that best fits me,” Meredith said on his social media post. “I have a calling in my heart to serve my country.”

By my count, Marin Catholic (Calif.) fullback Cole Truex’s pledge Thursday gives Army 10 commits in the 2019 class. Truex is Army’s first 2019 commit from California. He had offers from rival service academies Navy and Air Force. Marin Catholic alumni include Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff.
