Recruiting: 11-commit weekend for Black Knights

It’s 11:59 p.m. Sunday and the Army commitment tracker has finally slowed down.

What a three-day recruiting weekend for the Black Knights. From Friday through Sunday night, Army received 11 commitments by our count.

Tyler Komorowski, the 11th commit, may have been the most notable. K0morowski, a first-team, all-state defensive end and pitcher out of Weir, W.Va., had a preferred walk-on option to Michigan. Nineteen of Komorowski’s 52 tackles were for a loss his junior season.

Canton McKinley quarterback Alijah Curtis announced his commitment to Army Sunday. Curtis threw for 1,704 yards and 15 touchdowns and added four rushing touchdowns as a junior.

Iowa City West (Iowa) linebacker-safety Cole Mabry chose Army over in-state Iowa State. Mabry, who posted his commitment Sunday, wrote, “I believed I have lived the American Dream and this nation and our underlying principles are something that I am willing to defend.”

Army’s weekend commitments included Christ School (N.C.) cornerback Keyvaun Cobb, Camden County (Ga.) tight end Trace Dorminy, Richmond Hill (Ga.) tackle Lachlan Holt, Choate Rosemary Hall (Conn.) safety Daryan McDonald and Prosper (Texas) guard Carson Shaffer.

Cobb said of his commitment, “It’s a big-time school with a big-time football program and I know I want to be a part of something bigger than myself and make a difference.”

Dorminy, who was named the top senior tight end Saturday at Army prospect camp, gave the coaching staff his commitment before he left West Point.

“The biggest factor for me was a guaranteed job straight out of college and after service,” Dorminy said.

When asked about the state of Army’s program, which has won 18 games over the last two seasons, Dorminy wrote, “I’ve been talking to other commits and we all believe we are on the uphill…with the guys we have and will get, I think we will be one of the best recruiting classes and best teams in the nation.”

Conley (N.C.) defensive end Reed Chandler, who earned the senior defensive and defensive end MVP camp awards Saturday, Cuero running back Keiran Grant and Vandegrift (Texas) linebacker Spencer Jones announced their commitments Friday night after Army’s recruiting event Knight On The Hudson. Holt and Shaffer also attended Knight On The Hudson
