Tuesday press conference: Hawaii week

Hawaii is one of college football’s early-season surprises.

The undefeated Warriors have equaled their win total from last season and look to remain perfect Saturday when they visit Michie Stadium.

Army is coming off its first victory of the season, 38-14 over Liberty Saturday, but coach Jeff Monken knows his team will have to play sounder football and avoid foolish penalties to knock off Hawaii.

“We are going to need to perform a lot better than we did in week 2 to beat Hawaii,” Monken said. “This is a team that everybody is talking about, 3-0 and have scored a bunch of points.”

145 points in three games to be exact.

Monken said Hawaii is a team, “that we really respect and admire in terms of their toughness and effort.”

“That’s what we try to get our guys to do. If we are playing hard and playing with great effort and they are too, I’m sure it’s going to be a whale of a football game.
