Recruiting: Florida tackle David Hoyt joins 2020 class

David Hoyt’s wish or dream of attending West Point started at an early age.

How early?

“I’ve been thinking about it since I was 5,” said Hoyt, a 6-foot-6, 280-pound junior tackle of out Tampa (Fla.) Catholic.

Hoyt’s dreams came true Saturday when he committed to Jeff Monken and his staff on a visit. ESPN recruiting list Hoyt as a three-star recruit. Hoyt is ranked a three-star recruit and the 90th-best tackle nationally in the 2020 class by 247 Sports.

“When I was around 13 and Pop Warner started coming to an end, I realized that, ‘My goal really is West Point,'” Hoyt said.

Hoyt left his recruiting open. He received offers from Rutgers and Illinois of the Big Ten Conference as well as Buffalo, Tulane, Western Kentucky, Western Michigan, Ohio, Toledo, Southern Mississippi and Liberty. But, Hoyt’s visit to West Point sealed his decision.

“After going around the school, I realized that this truly is where I want to be,” Hoyt said.

“Getting a top education, getting to be part of the Brotherhood with all of the players and coaches. The guys were awesome people and it really felt like home. Knowing I’m doing something more like being able to serve after is just awesome.”

Hoyt, the first offensive player to commit to Army’s 2020 class, grew up watching the Army-Navy football game. Now, he will be a part of one of college football’s best rivalries.

Hoyt’s uncle, Tim Leone, is a 2004 West Point graduate.
