Recruiting: Louisiana QB Collin Guggenheim joins 2020 class

Class of 2020 quarterback commits keep rolling in for Army as Collin Guggenheim of John Curtis Christian (La.) posted a video Monday stating his intentions to join the Black Knights.

During his commitment video, Guggenheim said that he was told he wasn’t fast enough, too short and his arm wasn’t strong enough to play Division I-A football.

Army was the only FBS school to offer Guggenheim, who rushed for 1,000 yards and passed for 1,000 yards in his junior season. Guggenheim visited Army in late May.

“Everyone there wants you to succeed in life,” said Guggenheim, who is 5-foot-11 and 205 pounds. “It’s just the family atmosphere.

“(The recent success) puts Army on the map nationally and it will only go up from here because of the groups of guys that will be continually coming in.”

Navy showed interest in Guggenheim, who made a trip to Annapolis in April.

“They told me I just wanted their guy,” Guggenheim said.

Guggenheim runs a veer offense, similar to Army’s scheme, at John Curtis.

“I can come in and compete right away,” Guggenheim said. “I do not have to spend a year or two trying to learn and understand the veer. I’m excited I get to continue to run the veer at the next level.”

Meadowcreek (Ga.) quarterback Quincy Bonner committed to Army Sunday following an unofficial visit Saturday.

“I wouldn’t want to be a part of any other brotherhood,” Bonner said. “It was a great campus and just the history alone was mind-blowing not knowing people like George Washington helped with the start of (West Point). The facilities are unbelievable and the coaches were great. It felt like a family when I was around them.”

Bonner believes that Army’s offense fits his skill set. He said Meadowcreek runs a lot single-back option and double-back reads.

“I watched the Army and Navy game and I like the offense more after I got to watch some film on it,” Bonner said. “I can run very well. My 40 (yard dash time) is 4.5 (seconds). I can also run a quick-style offense and I’m a tough runner. I know how to run behind my pads. I can also throw and I am also a great leader.”

Four quarterback prospects have committed to Army from June 17-24 as Donovan Anthony of Washington Wilkes (Ga.) and Delshawn Traylor of Helix, Calif.

Traylor was recruited as a safety by Air Force and didn’t receive much attention from Navy. Traylor’s father has actively served in the Navy for 21 years.

“The military has always intrigued me but when Army reached out, I knew it was the best choice for me,” Traylor said.
