Recruiting: Georgia lineman Lewis joins 2021 class

Morgan County (Ga.) tackle Gavyn Lewis wasted little time making his college decision once he received an offer from Army Saturday.

Lewis called offensive coordinator Brent Davis, who recruits to Peach State, the next day and gave his verbal commitment to the Black Knights.

The 6-foot-5, 275-pound lineman is Army’s fourth commit of 2021 class and first from Georgia.

“I committed to Army because it was the best choice for me as a man and for my future,” Lewis said. “I knew this place (West Point) would help me develop into a great man while being able to play big-time football and fight for my country.”

Lewis said his decision was based on academics as much as football.

“Football doesn’t last forever,” Lewis said.

Lewis was also offered by Air Force and three FCS schools. When asked the differences between Army and Air Force, Lewis said. “I mean, it’s West Point. It’s Harvard but with more options.”
