Recruiting: Florida QB Robbie Sanders joins Army 2021 class

Robbie Sanders runs a spread offense in high school but the Lake Minneola (Fla.) rising senior believes he possesses the athleticism, decision making and speed to master Army’s flexbone formation.

Army’s coaching staff agreed. Sanders received his only offer to continue to play the position in college from Army. Others showed interest in Sanders as an athlete.

Sanders plans on remaining under center at the next level following his announcement Friday. He became the second quarterback commit of Army’s 2021 class.

“Football-wise, it fits my style of play very well,” Sanders said. “I think for educational purposes anyone that would pass up on opportunity to be at the No. 1 public school in the nation is crazy. I liked how much the coaches push the brotherhood aspect.”

A dual threat, Sanders rushed for 706 yards and 13 touchdowns and passed for 1,513 yards and 13 touchdowns as a junior.

“I run a lot of RPOs (run-pass options), which requires you to be smart while being an athlete the same way you have to be at Army,” Sanders said.

Sanders said he’s built a strong relationship with recruiting coach Daryl Dixon as well as position coach Cody Worley. Army offered Sanders in late March.
