Recruiting: The best Father’s Day present. DB Leroy Watson commits to Army.

Leroy Watson saved his college commitment announcement for Sunday in an effort to surprise his father.

Watson announced his decision to attend Army in front of family members on Father’s Day. But, his dad, Leroy, had figured out his son’s move along the way.

“Can’t keep a secret from him,” Watson said. “It’s the best (Father’s Day present).”

Watson’s father had connected with West Point graduates that he knew to inquire about the academy following Army’s offer in March.

“The people that went there are living a life only I can dream of,” Watson said. “If I can give up four years of college to make my dreams come true, you best believe I’m taking it without hesitation.”

Watson started in the secondary for River Rouge (Mich.) state championship team as a junior. He’s transferring to Central Catholic High School in Toledo, Ohio for his senior year. Watson chose Army over Arkansas State. He also received offers from Miami (Ohio) and Western Michigan before his junior season.
