The Beat Begins
Oh hey everyone, your new Aquarian Exposition beat reporter here checking in during his first day on the job.
So here’s what I have so far:
A couple kids from the city – John Roberts and Joel Rosenman – took out an ad in the New York Times. It read, “Young men with unlimited capital looking for interesting, legitimate investment opportunities and business propositions.” Two other kids – Michael Lang and Artie Kornfeld – didn’t answer the ad, but they did meet Roberts and Rosenman through a mutual friend. See, Roberts and Rosenman wanted to create a far-out television situation comedy show, like “Gomer Pyle” or the old “Lucy” shows. So they were basically looking for crazy ideas to write about. But Lang and Kornfeld had an idea for a folk concert and a recording studio. They want to build the studio up in Woodstock. The concert? The guys thought it would be cool enough. They created Woodstock Ventures to get the ball rolling.
For the concert, the guys leased out the Mills Industrial Park in Wallkill for $100,000. Kind of an odd space, but it’s big enough at 300 acres. And it has water and electric access. Town isn’t too happy about all this, though.
I’m gonna go and talk to these guys, see what their plans are. And see if they have what it takes to fight the town.
