I know this has been a popular adage for many years, and while it has a lot of truth to it, there’s a deeper truth that is often missed. You are not what you eat. You are what your body can digest, absorb and utilize. In other words, you must heal your gut!
If your gut is not healthy, it doesn’t matter how much organic food you have, or how many natural supplements you take: you won’t get the benefit. That is why part of my initial work with clients is always to address digestion. Then, improving nutrition can make all the difference in the world.
Let’s dispel a few myths here about digestion. Though it may be common, it is not normal to:
- be gassy
- have bloating
- need antacids
- move your bowels any less than once or twice a day.
Other symptoms of digestive problems can include bad breath, reflux/GERD, cramping, symptoms immediately after eating such as fatigue, cramping, or urgency. The good news is that we are designed to heal. Heal your gut, and not only will these symptoms disappear, you will probably experience improvements in many areas of your life!
